If you didn´t compile dovecot from source, you need to install the dovecot-mysql package:

RedHat/CentOS/Fedora:

yum install dovecot-mysql

Debian:

apt-get install dovecot-mysql

If you compiled dovecot from source, you need to add mysql to your compile options.
